SIMPLE MINDS: WALK BETWEEN WORLDS TOUR @ Sony Centre (Sept 30, 2018)

It took well over a decade for Simple Minds to remind itself of its love affair with Toronto when they last visited a packed, sold-out show at Massey Hall a few years ago.

Reminiscing of many who attended Kingswood Theatre (Canada’s Wonderland) over 30 years ago that the love affair began on a hot summer Toronto night.

Luckily, it took less time for their return, promoting their latest album and tour “Walk Between Worlds”

Visiting the Sony Centre, it was another occasion for many to re-live the years of youth.

Starting with “The Signal and the Noise” from they’re latest 2018 album release “Walk Between Worlds”, the audience quickly rose to their feet without losing momentum for popular 1983 single “Waterfront”.

Balancing 40 years of material is never an easy task with popular memories such as “Waterfront“, “Up on the Catwalk”, “Promised You a Miracle” and Ewan Maccoll cover “Dirty Old Town”.

Breaking the setlist in two sets, with starter “She’s a River”, LP title track “Walk Between Worlds”, “Hypnotised” and classic “Someone Somewhere in Summertime” was a remedy for new wave synth devotees.

Finishing the second set with favourites Breakfast Club soundtrack anthem “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and “New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)” did nothing to quell the audience looking forward to more 80s nostalgia.

Encore pieces “Book of Brilliant Things”, “Alive and Kicking” and apropos encore gospel closer “Sanctify Yourself” was a satisfying finish to a memorable evening.
